Tadoba National Park
About Tadoba National Park
Tadoba National Park, also known as the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, holds the distinction of being Maharashtra’s oldest and largest national park. Nestled in the Chandrapur district, about 150 km from Nagpur, it’s one of India’s 47 Project Tiger reserves, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Spanning an impressive 1,727 sq. km, this reserve combines the Tadoba National Park, established in 1955, with the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary, created in 1986 and merged with the park in 1995 to form the iconic Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve we know today. The name “Tadoba” originates from the deity “Tadoba” or “Taru,” revered by the local tribal communities, while “Andhari” is derived from the Andhari River that flows through the region. Rich in history, culture, and biodiversity, Tadoba is a must-visit destination for those looking to experience the untamed beauty of nature.
According to the 2010 National Census on Tigers, the Tadoba Tiger Reserve is home to around 43 tigers, one of the highest populations in India. Here’s a closer look at what makes this park so special:
